Renewing our pledge to Autisme Maurice
During the present Rotarian Year 2017-2018, the Rotary Club of Curepipe renewed its pledge for support to the pupils of the schools of ‘Autisme Maurice’. The initiative consists of overseeing and financing of a ‘Summer Holiday Project’ which was initiated during the last Rotarian Year. In November, President Vasdev and many members were present at a ceremony when a cheque of Rs146,000 was kindly remitted to ‘Autisme Maurice’.
Under this programme which costs Rs146,000 and wholly financed by the Rotary Club of Curepipe, the 35 pupils of the ‘Austisme Maurice’ schools can enjoy a working holiday.
This Summer Holiday Project enables the autistic children to have leisure activities and continuous assistance thus avoiding regression of the year’s work due to long cut-out in the school calendar. It also brings relief to parents during holidays and helps teachers to pursue the therapies carried on the autistic pupils. During that period, the pupils are involved in various activities which focus on senses such as feel, vision, sound, smell and taste as well as more abstract senses of well-being, space, time and togetherness. It also develops communication in autistic pupils through regular therapy, fun games and small art workshops.
The programme started on 6th November 2017 and ended on the 15th December 2017.
