Chess Training Project

Over the past years, the Vocational Service of the Rotary Club of Curepipe organized annual Chess Competitions with the collaboration of the Mauritius Chess Federation amongst students of schools and colleges located in Curepipe. However, in December 2017, the Vocational Service of which the Chairman is Ramesh Moonshiram, organized a training in chess on 7 , 8 and 11 December  for Teachers of secondary schools the collaboration of the Mauritius Chess Federation.    23 Teachers from 17 colleges participated in the Training which was held in the Gymnasium of the Ministry of Youths and Sports in Phoenix. The closing ceremony on the 11th December was attended by Hon. Stephan Toussaint, Minister of Youths and Sports who, in his address, congratulated the Rotary Club of Curepipe on their initiative and said that he would consider introducing Chess game in youth centers around the Island.  Mrs Manda Boolell, Director of Services of the Rotary Club of Curepipe, thanked Mr Ishwar Bhowanee, President of the Chess Federation, for his collaboration and support and made a request to the Teachers to open Chess Clubs in their schools so that the children become better thinkers and strategists.

A distinctive feature of the training was that it was conducted by International Chess Master, Stefan Lofler who had come all the way from Germany to conduct the training on the initiative of the Mauritius Federation which also bore the cost of his air ticket and lodging.
